I would agree with you on Inglourious & Up In The Air being the two best films of the year - although Up is also pretty close. I understand your take on Cameron but I still would give it to Bigelow. The reason being: she was the only directed that actually risked their life making the film. And I'm not talking about sanity or Hollywood career - from the scorching heat to the rea life danger of being an American film crew, shooting an Iraq war movie(on a limited budget) in the Middle East. I was very underwhelmed by Avatar and honestly its one of my least favorite films of the year. And I do agree that The Hurt Locker was good, without being great - the first hour was solid, though, and I loved Renner's performance but it really kind of unravels in the 2nd hour. However, for putting herself in harm's way because she was dedicated to her film, well I had no problem with the Academy honoring her for that.
