Little has been known about this film but now we finally have some ideas. James Gunn brought us the first trailer and clip ever shown to the public at Comic-Con. The one thing I already knew about this film was the great ensemble: Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Nathan Fillion, and even Kevin Bacon! From the footage, it looked like a low-budget Kick-Ass to me. The script was written before Kick-Ass was ever made and the film makers themselves referred to it as a low-budget Watchmen. However…there’s a lot more to it.
Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, and Nathan Fillion
SUPER follows Rainn Wilson who has been picked on and walked over by others and looses his wife to another man. So, like any logical man would do, he turns himself into a super hero to win his wife back. Not so fast, don’t think he has good intentions…this movie is a dark, gritty, gruesome film which looks hilarious and twisted at the same time. It does look like it has low production but it also looks like it’s going to surprise us with a few shocking scenes. Rainn holds nothing back…he even hits a girl.
James Gunn said that this is the first movie which he feels he made for himself. More tidbits of information we gathered was that Ellen Page plays Rainn’s kid sidekick and has her way with Rainn at some point of the film. Liv Tyler plays a drug addict and Nathan Fillion plays The Holy Avenger who has churisma…a mix of charisma and the church.
I’m really looking forward to this movies because I love indie films…but I don’t think this is going to have a wide appeal especially after the lower results than what was expected from Kick-Ass. But hey, with James Gunn and this cast, it’s sure to be loved by the fans.
