Starring Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, and Sissy Spacek, Get Low is a story of redemption, forgiveness and reputation. Loosely based on a true story, Get Low is about an old hermit living in the woods who decides to attend his own funeral. Living in isolation for about forty years, Felix Bush started to get a reputation of being a crazy and horrible man. He heard about all these stories about him but didn’t actually know the stories since nobody was actually courageous enough to talk to him. So, naturally, he wanted to hear these stories and knew that people would say them at a funeral eulogy. One problem though, he wasn’t dead. But why does he have to be?

Facebook. Everyone knows about it and almost everybody is on it. To not be a part of it is just as conscious a decision as not to drink water, as it has become just as much a part of society as eating and sleeping. Despite its widespread popularity, however, for most, little is known about its origins, its founders, and how it has become such an institution in our everyday life. Cue Columbia Pictures to bring you The Social Network, the tale of how this social networking phenom implanted itself into the homes of millions of Americans nationwide. The Social ...
REVIEW: Catfish with Q&A with the filmmakers
This is one of those festival films which got a lot of buzz, got picked up by a distributor, and then baffled the suits on how to market the film to anybody. Catfish premiered at Sundance last year by virtually unknown filmmakers with little fanfare but gained a lot of attention as it screened. The logo and trailer being show to the general public have almost nothing to do with the actual movie. And neither will this review...This film is very hard to review because once you get into what the film is really about, you ruin the movie. So ...
REVIEW: Flipped
Flipped is a great wholesome movie. It was truly marvelous. It tells the classic story of young love between a boy and a girl but in regard to film, it doesn't tell it in the classical way. The movie is set in the fifties and takes us back to a time of the radio where stories were just told verbally. Flipped heavily relies on the great monologues of the main characters and uses the visuals to support that. It's a movie that can be enjoyed by young and old and has a light enjoyable feeling even when dealing with difficult ...
REVIEW: Piranha 3D
If you're ever in Thailand, go see a movie...their theaters are very luxurious even on Hollywood standards. At the beginning of each film they play a little montage in honor of their ruling King where you must stand...it's quite a different experience but very cool. Most of the movies they show are quite recent coming out at or around the same time as the US release dates and sometimes even before! Walking around Bangkok I noticed that they were promoting Piranha 3D a lot so I knew I had to check it out... As I expected, it was hilariously bad but ...
REVIEW: Going the Distance
Going the Distance is not your typical rom com (Remember, it's rated R). Sure, it has the romantic side for the ladies but the comedy is definitely for the dudes (women will get a kick out of it too though). Starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long, Going the Distance delivers a nonstop (pun?) orgy of humor and emotions without going over the top and keeps it realistic. It has mass appeal but doesn't sell out to conform...no wonder it was pushed back a week for the Labor Day weekend...I think a lot of people are going to love this one. The ...
REVIEW: Death at a Funeral
Posted on April 15th, 2010 by Matthew FongWith such an amazing cast including some of today’s best comedians, how could this comedy turn out so shitty? (pun intended) Death at a Funeral goes for the quirky everything that can go wrong does go wrong feel but ends up with a plain old movie that’s as stiff as the body in the casket they’re having the funeral for. Chris Rock, playing Aaron, has been living with and supporting his father, mother (Loretta Devine), and wife (Regina Hall) who is trying to get pregnant. Martin Lawrence is Aaron ‘s younger and much more successful brother Ryan who everyone adores…except, of course, Aaron. Joined by the rest of his family, Aaron tries to hold a service for his late father but one thing leads to another and you’re supposed to laugh.

REVIEW: The Joneses
Posted on April 14th, 2010 by Matthew FongEverybody wants the American Dream. The dream may be different from person to person but for Corporate America, the American Dream is owning everything money can buy or at least more than everybody you know. What if a company set up a family with everything new and fantastic in order to entice the people around them to go out and buy it? Well that’s the premise of this movie. Think: Keeping up with The Joneses.

REVIEW: The Perfect Game
Posted on April 13th, 2010 by Matthew FongThe Perfect Game is the most touching made for TV movie that I’ve seen in the theaters. Before I get misquoted, The Perfect Game was not made for TV, but it sure did feel like it. The movie isn’t well made at all but by the end of the film, you’ll fall in love with the story and characters that you won’t even care. Based on the true story of the first foreign team to win the Little League World Series of Baseball, The Perfect Game follows the team of young boys from the poor Mexican town of Monterrey to their inevitable perfect game in the United States and history.

REVIEW: Kick-Ass
Posted on April 8th, 2010 by Matthew FongThe movie lives up to the hype! I missed countless screenings and heard many peoples’ reactions to the film throughout the past few weeks so my expectations fluctuated with every person I talked to. Still, I was surprised with what I saw and smiled from beginning to end…it was exceptional and well delivered. Kick-Ass is [...]

REVIEW: after.life
Posted on April 7th, 2010 by Matthew FongThe premise of after.life is really intriguing. When you see it play out in the film, it’s very thought provoking and you will find yourself asking yourself a lot of questions during and after the film. This is a messed up and twisted movie about the transition from living to dead…to the afterlife. Based in [...]

WonderCon: The Lionsgate Kick-Ass Panel
Posted on April 7th, 2010 by Matthew FongKick-Ass has been getting a lot of marketing and promotion or maybe I’m just in their target market. I missed the screening and panel for Kick-Ass at South By Southwest but luckily Lionsgate presented another one at WonderCon. All of the stars, Nicolas Cage (Big Daddy), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Red Mist), Clark Duke (Marty), Aaron Johnson [...]
