To start things off, Warner Bros treated the San Francisco WonderCon audience to an exclusive look at the new Green Lantern film. It was about 9 minutes of footage from the beginning of the movie where Abin Sur escapes the wrath of Parallax and crash lands on Earth where he recruits Hal Jordan to become his replacement as the Green Lantern. After putting on the ring, he’s whisked away to meet the Green Lantern Corps. Imagine thousands of Green Lanterns almost all digitally made. If they do the correct mix of action, adventure, and special effects…this could work out. The last trailer didn’t look too hot but the new full trailer will play before Thor next month.
When asked how it was to shoot a majority of the movie infront of a blue screen in Louisiana, Ryan Reynolds that it felt good after seeing that shit [the footage] right there. He said he prepared for 6 months before the movie to get physically prepared. He’s not old, but he’s not 19 anymore and jumping a couple stories onto concrete hurts. When asked what the difference between all the superhero movies and this one, Reynolds answered that they’re all difference at that he grew up with Star Wars so he always wanted to get into something like this. He said he isn’t a studio loyalist but that this studio, with what they did with Harry Potter, that they’re spending the money in the right way.
Reynolds performed the Green Lantern Oath with the entire WonderCon audience, but it was a million times better at Comic Con. When asked who would win in a fight, Deadpool or Green Lantern he replied, “I’ll go with Green Lantern at this point in time.” The movie took about 6 months to shoot and “it’s the post where this movie begins.” From the footage, you can tell that Green Lantern is CG heavy with tons of special effects and alterations.
Ryan Reynolds is known for his sarcastic remarks and one-liners but for Green Lantern, Reynolds explained that the character is not funny, he has a dray wit.
Blake Lively, who plays Carol Ferris in the movie, was also in attendance and asked about her decision to dye her hair for the movie. Carol is brunette and she’s blonde but she said she did it for the fans. Her security guard, who you wouldn’t think reads comic books, was really excited when he heard she got the part. He told her that she had to dye her hair brown for her own security. Then she said something about having more material on her costume and the audience Boooed. That was pretty much the extent of her involvement in the panel.
Warner Brothers gave the best swag at WonderCon last year, this year they gave everybody in the audience a Green Lantern t-shirt and lanyard pictured below:
